Healing Checklist: for before and during sickness or injury.
Prior to illness or injury
- Be actively engaged in the Salvation Process and the elements therein.
- Develop and maintain a close relationship with God.
- Be immersed into the Word of God and the doctrine derived from that source.
- Pray without ceasing. ...for God's will, for your health, for protection, for clean air, water and food. Pray for the sick.
- Understand that good health and healing are predicated on obedience to God. Obey God. Hearken to His Word.
- Ask God for and spend your lifetime developing the same faith He has to move mountains.
- Maintain a balanced diet which includes wholesome, natural foods and which excludes (as much as is practical in our society) processed foods such as sugars and starches, and artificially flavored and preserved foods.
- Maintain recommended amounts of exercise, sleep and relaxation.
- Maintain a positive mental outlook and a peaceful mental attitude.
- Operate with caution to avoid accidents and injury.
- Have a regular program of routine physical examinations by a qualified doctor.
- Take advantage of medical science knowing it does not detract from faith in God.
- Members should educate themselves on health and get professional counseling on health, disease, diets, procedures, first aid, emergency plans, exercise, exercise equipment or for anything about which they have curiosity or concern.
- Do not take health advice from anyone other than competent professionals in the field of medical science. This includes other members, ministry, friends or relatives. Use caution and verify all you can regarding any health-related subject.
- Other than encouraging members to seek professional help, do not attempt to go on a campaign to influence them about anything in the field of medical science.
- Understand and on a regular basis contemplate and meditate on the blood and body of Jesus Christ and what He sacrificed and went through that we might be healed.
- When you seek professional medical help, select the most competent within your means. Understand that one is not more "righteous" than another, but one might be more skilled than another.
When illness or injury occur
- The sick person should call for the elders of the Church who will lay hands upon his head, pray over him and anoint him with oil.
- Enter into prayer. Don't just tell God how big your mountain [health trial] is, tell the mountain how big your God is.
- If you feel moved to do so, contact the National Prayer Network, so that many will be praying for you.
- The ill individual should look to man for whatever physical help he can receive but should also look to God to do what man cannot do?supernaturally intervene and divinely remove the illness, sickness or disease.
- Seek the most competent professional help. Depending on the illness or injury this would include, but not be limited to, first aid, ambulance/aid car, hospital emergency room, health care providers, doctors, nurses, health aids, therapists, dentists, surgeons, hospitals, clinics, dietitians, health specialists, pharmacies, prescribed medicines and supplements and/or treatments.
- If you feel you lack faith in face of this current illness or injury, admit it and seek out the elder or minister to consult with you on this or any spiritual matter.
- Do all you can to help yourself, which includes seeking all professional help AND trust in God for healing. See 129
- If one or more health care professionals are involved, pray that God guides their skills in treating you.
- Evaluate all surgical interventions, pharmacological prescriptions and other medical procedures (whether diagnostic, preventive or curative). Discard anything you conclude is quackery and/or not appropriate to your case.
- When you seek professional medical help, select the most competent within his means. Understand that one is not more "righteous" than another, but one might be more skilled than another.
When you are in crisis
This checklist is for those times you are beset with sorrow, shock, confusion and not knowing what to do next. It is for those times you find yourself doubting yourself, your faith and/or your status before God and in the Salvation Process.
